I am your host, Amanda Benbow Lunn, and this episode of our 2023 candidate segment will feature Nolan Perry. While Nolan originally agreed to participate in a podcast episode, he unfortunately stopped responding to my calls, emails, text and social media messages and has chosen not to prioritize speaking with you via this medium. However, I feel having as much information as possible as a voter is important, so I will simply be going over his website or information that can be found online, in case it is easier for you to take in the information this way. If you are short on time, you can get this information from his website or a Google search, so feel free to skip this podcast if that is a better use of your time. Nolan is running for the four year seat for Board of Commissioners for Fuquay Varina, also known as Town Council. He will be running against Charlie Adcock, Mike Ferig, Marilyn Gardner and William Bill Harris. You will be eligible to vote for up to three of these candidates for this seat on your ballot when you go to vote in the upcoming municipal election. Without further ado, friends, let's dive in.

Nolan Perry is a local attorney and co-owner of Morgan and Perry Law PLLC. As a local business owner, he understands the challenges of entrepreneurship and the importance of a supportive town. Nolan strives to be a small business champion and dedicates his free time to engaging in the community. He is an active member of the Fuquay Varina Chamber of Commerce, Fuquay Varina Downtown Associations, Friends of the Fuquay Varina Arts Center. He has served on several non-profit and community boards, including as past board chair for the Fuquay Varina Chamber of Commerce, past board chair and treasurer for Carolina Charter Academy and event director for the Fuquay Varina Christmas Parade. Nolan is a two-time graduate of Campbell University, receiving a bachelor's in trust and wealth management, as well as his Juris Doctor. He lists four of them and he states supporting our business community. Fuquay Varina can be the best place in North Carolina to own and operate a small business. Small businesses are the catalyst of a thriving community. Local policies must foster a strong economy, not impede local entrepreneurs. Maintain our safe communities. We must support the Fuquay Varina Police and Fire Departments as our community continues to grow, we must ensure our first responders have the resources they need to meet the challenges of the day. The third issue is to improve transportation and infrastructure, and he says well-constructed and maintained roadways, along with adequate water and sewer infrastructure, are vital to the safety of our citizens. Other infrastructure, such as internet availability, sidewalks, public transportation, are also important to our quality of life. We need strong leaders to advocate for Fuquay Varina infrastructure with our state and federal partners.

The last issue he speaks of is preserving our small town charm. The rich history of our town distinguishes us from other municipalities. We can preserve our hometown identity while revitalizing our downtowns and leading Wake County in innovation. We can level out our tax base without forfeiting our unique heritage. Democracy is at the heart of all we hold dear. Our local governments have the influence to decide our community's priorities. These offices have a major impact on our daily lives and can have real consequences. They create and enforce local ordinances, fund our local fire and police departments, create the structure and ambiance of our communities and decide our local property taxes. Your voter turnout in local elections means your vote has even more of an impact. Early voting starts October 19th at the Wake County Board of Elections and begins October 28th and will run through November 4th at the John M Brown Community Center in Apex and the Avery Street Recreation Center in Garner. During early voting, you may go to any of these early voting sites. Election Day will be Tuesday, November 7th. On Election Day, you have to go to your designated polling site. Please remember you will need a valid ID to vote. This year, the voter registration deadline is October 13th, though you may also be eligible to register at the voting sites during the early voting period.
