I am your host, Amanda Benbow Lunn, and today's episode of our 2023 Candidate Segment will feature Brian Dennis. Brian has unfortunately not responded to my attempts to reach him and has declined via a third party. Brian has chosen not to prioritize speaking with you via this medium. However, I feel having as much information as possible as a voter is important, so I will simply be going over his website and information that can be found online, in case it's easier for you to take in the information this way. If you are short on time, you can get most of this information from his website or a google search, so feel free to skip this podcast if that's a better use of your time. Brian is running for the four-year seat for the Board of Commissioners for Holly Springs, also known as Town Council. He will be running against Stacy Almquist, Chris Deshazor, Danielle Hewetson, and Jack Turnwald. You will be eligible to vote for up to two of these candidates for this seat on your ballot when you go to vote in the upcoming municipal election. Without further ado, friends, let's dive in.

Brian lives in Holly Springs with his wife, Kimberly, and their eight-year-old son, Mathias, and their dog Sakari. Brian and Mathias are also involved with the Cub Scouts. He attends Hope Community Church with his family. Brian has spent the last 15 years in the finance industry, providing him with an understanding of how important it is to steward town resources well. Brian hopes to continue the outstanding stewardship of the current Holly Springs Town Council. Additionally, beginning at the age of 24, Brian began a decade of experience working with Fortune 500 CEOs in corporate America, making him uniquely qualified in recruiting large businesses. This is another skill Brian hopes to bring to the Holly Springs Town Council. In between his past and current vocation, Brian also obtained his Juris Doctor.

According to his website, he has four areas of his campaign platform, the first of which is economic development and growth. He writes: We want Holly Springs to grow in a balanced way that keeps its small town feel. To do this, we'll make our own town better. By improving roads and buildings, following certain design rules for how things look and making sure there are enough parks and places to play, we'll help the town get better while letting builders make nice homes and places to live. The second topic is traffic and transportation, and he says I plan to work on ways to make traffic smoother and help people get around. This means making traffic lights work together, integrating computers into traffic systems and finding creative ways to manage the growing traffic on our roads. His third platform is on small business owner expansion and he says we want our Holly Springs small businesses to do even better. He supports reducing burdens for small businesses and will work tirelessly to recruit small businesses to our town. In Holly Springs and in other neighboring counties. We will support charity drives and nonprofits such as the Holly Springs small business owner collective. We will promote Holly Springs a caring town that welcomes everyone to explore our eclectic services. The last platform is to support Holly Springs police. It is important that as a community, we are involved in reducing crime. We do this by promoting community policing and neighborhood watch programs, providing youth engagement activities and workshops and partnering with local businesses for enhanced security. Democracy is at the heart of all we hold dear. Our local governments have the influence to decide our community's priorities. These offices have a major impact on our daily lives and can have real consequences. They create and enforce local ordinances, fund our local fire and police departments, create the structure and ambiance of our communities and decide our local property taxes. Lower voter turnout in local elections means your vote has even more of an impact.

Early voting starts October 19th at the Wake County Board of Elections and begins October 28th and will run through November 4th at the John M Brown Community Center in Apex and the Avery Street Recreation Center in Garner. During early voting, you may go to any of these early voting sites. Election Day will be Tuesday, November 7th. On Election Day, you have to go to your designated polling site. Please remember you will need a valid ID to vote. This year, the voter registration deadline is October 13th, though you may also be eligible to register at the voting sites during the early voting period.
